Spotlighting a Behavior
March 5, 2024Caffeinated Thought of the Week:
Quinnipiac Men’s Hockey may not be a powerhouse program attracting 5-star recruits, yet they consistently compete with top-notch teams,
boasting 3 Frozen Four appearances and 1 National Championship in the past decade.
Among many factors contributing to their success, Head Coach Rand Pecknold instills a core value in his team known as “40/40”.
With approximately 40 back-checking opportunities per game, he emphasizes the importance of back-checking 100% of the time.
Coach Pecknold reinforces this value in the locker room, during one-on-one meetings, and in team film sessions.
He ensures that when a player successfully executes a back-check, the team celebrates together.1
***A back-check is a defensive play in hockey where a player without the puck skates back towards their own goal in an effort to disrupt the opposing team’s offensive play.
Quote of the Week:
“What is celebrated, is repeated.” - Andy Stanley
