Where Does Leadership Start?
March 26, 2024Caffeinated Thought of the Week:
Leadership guru John Maxwell’s infamous quote: "Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less.” answers what leadership is. Where does leadership start? Leadership starts by learning how to lead yourself, so that you can lead others.
Your first commitment should be to yourself through getting healthy in the four major categories:
- Physical
- Emotional
- Spiritual
- Financial
Remember, this does not mean perfection, not even close. Leadership is about serving others. It’s about getting to a place where your cup is filled up enough so that you can pour into others. It’s like going on a hike with a friend who forgets their water. You’re not able to help hydrate them if you’re unprepared and don’t have any water in your bottle.
Quote of the Week:
“First be a leader of yourself. Only then can you grow to lead others.” - David Taylor-Klaus
Reflection of the Week:
How is your cup doing right now in the four categories? What is one way you can grow this week? What is one way you can pour into a friend, classmate, family member, or stranger this week?
Here’s a Leadership Lean In podcast with Pastor Chad Veach where he digs into this topic much more.
