How Every Task Holds Greater Meaning
December 26, 2023Story of the Week:
After the great fire of 1666 that demolished London, the world’s most famous architect, Christopher Wren, was commissioned to rebuild St Paul’s Cathedral. In 1671, Wren came across three bricklayers on a scaffold, each immersed in their work.
Three bricklayers were asked, “What are you doing?”
- The first says, “I’m a bricklayer. I’m working hard laying bricks to feed my family.” - Job
- The second says, “I’m a builder. I’m building a wall.” - Career
- The third says, “I’m a cathedral builder. I’m building a great cathedral to The Almighty.” - Calling
Quote of the Week:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,” - Paul from Colossians 3:23
Caffeinated Thought of the Week:
We are called to different roles in life, from being a parent, teacher, teammate, pastor, friend, or spouse. Each of these roles presents an opportunity to contribute to something greater than ourselves.
If someone came up you in the middle of a task, how would you answer the question, “What are you doing?”
