Duct Tape Saves Lives
April 9, 2024Caffeinated Thought of the Week:
Vesta Stroudt worked in a factory in Illinois during WWII. She was inspecting ammo boxes and noticed a flaw. The boxes at the time were sealed with paper and a pull tab. When the boxes got soaked, it made opening the boxes an inconvenience for the soldiers. Long story short, she came up with the idea of sticky tape to fix the problem but, her supervisor rejected it. She then sent a letter to President Roosevelt and production of Duct Tape began shortly after.
Why was Vesta so determined to fix this issue? She had two sons in the military at the time and knew plenty of others. Vesta was looking to help them in any way she could. This was her “Why” or her purpose day in and day out at work.
Quote of the Week:
“When we know WHY we do what we do, everything falls into place. When we don’t, we have to push things into place.” - Simon Sinek
Reflection of the Week:
What is your “why” - the purpose fueling your goals and actions? Like Vesta, whose desire to help soldiers motivated her, connecting with your “why” can provide resilience to overcome obstacles and create positive change.
