Currency of Relationship
April 23, 2024Caffeinated Thought of the Week:
The currency in the US is the US Dollar (USD), for UN nations it’s the Euro, for Switzerland it’s the Swiss Franc, and for relationships, it’s trust. Think of trust as a coin jar in a relationship. When you first meet someone, the jar is empty. As you learn about each other and share random facts, a few coins go in. When someone follows through on what they said, more coins are added. However, if you disrespect their significant other, the jar gets emptied.
Quote of the Week:
“Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It’s the foundational principle that holds all relationships.” - Steven Covey
Reflection of the Week:
Trust makes you do and say things you never thought you would to someone who was once a “stranger.” Trust takes years to build and seconds to shatter.
Reflect on these six ways to grow your relationships “coin jars” of trust – which one could you improve upon?
- Live With Integrity
- Attentive Listening
- Be Vulnerable
- Show Up For the Little Things
- Keep Commitments
- If there is a coin withdrawal, apologize sincerely AND go above and beyond to rebuild that bridge of trust
